Offered For Sale by the California Automobile Museum

A BEAUTIFULLY restored 1947 Lincoln Continental Convertible. Purchased in June 1989, this Lincoln was nowhere near the condition you see it today. It had been seriously modified from its original condition in numerous ways including the wrong color paint and the installation of a Cadillac flat head engine. This Lincoln has undergone a complete restoration from the ground up paying very close attention to detail and sticking to the factory build sheet. All of its restoration has photographic documentation. The restoration was begun in the early 1990s and was completed in approximately 5 years with only 3,600 or less miles driven since completion. There is some interesting history that is associated with this Lincoln. Shipped to Tupman Motors, Long Beach, California in March of 1947, it is believed that this Lincoln was delivered to the MGM studios lot for use in television. This particular dealership was used solely for delivery of celebrity ordered and studio ordered Lincolns. Sometime in December 1948 or January 1949, the Lincoln was sold to a MGM studio employee. This employee mentioned numerous times he had purchased Clark Gable's car. The employee's statements have been verified by his daughters although there is no cut and dry documentation that this is in fact Mr. Gable's car. There appears to have been 4 owners of this Lincoln over its 65 year history. There is documentation of 3 included with this sale dating back to the early 1960s. So now about this fine Lincoln as it sits today. This car is in nearly perfect shape. The Lincoln Maroon paint shines brilliantly and deeply. It is nearly as flawless as it was the day it was applied. There are only very minor blemishes present consisting of cracks and some small chips. The chrome, stainless, and lighting lenses are all in great shape, shining brilliantly in the sunlight and deeply in the shade. There are no obvious blemishes or scratches in any of the bright work. The interior is as you would expect when accompanying a beautiful exterior. It is completely covered in factory correct leather material. There are only very minor signs of use and or wear. There are no stains, odors, or issues to be seen. The outward appearance has been meticulously cared for over the years since its restoration. Mechanically, you would be hard pressed to find a better operating Lincoln. The non original but period correct V12 engine purrs like a baby kitten and idles smooth as a sewing machine. It starts effortlessly and when driving, one has to rev the engine for confirmation it is still running. The engines power is harnessed by a smooth shifting manual transmission and the car sails smoothly and effortlessly along on its 7.00-15 Firestone wide white wall tires. The Lincoln steers true and brakes well. There are no rattles to be heard and the wind noise is minimal considering it is a convertible. As one would expect from a fully restored car, all of the options, accessories and equipment work as they should with only a few minor exceptions. First, the windshield will need to be installed the remainder of the way. It is currently sitting in its frame and there is a seal around it but the framework on the interior is only held in place with a few fasteners and the windshield will move an eighth inch or so. The horn functions well and loudly and the exterior lighting bright as 6 volts will allow. The gauges all illuminate and function. For safety, seat belts have been added to the car. The radio installed will switch on and is in very g
