Vehicle Description
This new "junior" Hummer borrows styling from its military-based big brother, but is designed as a more-civilized, less-costly SUV. Like the original Hummer--now called the H1--the H2 is built by AM General in Indiana. However, it was designed in conjunction with General Motors, which now owns the Hummer brand, and is sold through selected GM dealerships, mostly Cadillac. The H2 gets its 6.0-liter V8, 4-speed automatic transmission, and major chassis components from GM's full-size SUVs. Compared to a Chevrolet Tahoe, the H2 is 9 inches shorter in length, but its wheelbase is nearly 7 inches longer and it's more than 2 inches wider. Standard seating is for five, with a single-passenger 3rd-row seat optional. AWD is standard and is designed for severe off-road use with low-range gearing, specific throttle-pedal and traction-control settings for on- and off-pavement, and a locking rear differential. Maximum towing capacity is 7000 lb. Standard features include antilock 4-wheel disc brakes, skid plates, OnStar assistance, power front seats, split folding 2nd-row seat, and 17-inch wheels. Side airbags are unavailable. Options include heated leather front and 2nd-row seats, sunroof, chrome appearance package, and an Adventure package with self-leveling rear air suspension |
