The 2003 Mazda Mazda6 marked the first generation of this family-friendly sedan, offering stylish design and engaging driving dynamics typically not found in its class. Two powertrain options were available: a 2.3L four-cylinder engine with 160 hp and a 3.0L V6 that churned out 220 hp. Choice of transmissions included a 5-speed manual, 4-speed automatic, and for the V6, a 5-speed automatic was optional. As for trim levels, both i and s trims were introduced, the former for the four-cylinder and latter for the V6 model. Notable safety features included standard dual front airbags, as well as optional side-impact and side-curtain airbags. The Mazda6 also offered a decent list of standard features like a 6-speaker sound system and tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel, and options such as a Bose audio system, leather upholstery, and a power driver's seat.
