1972 Chevrolet C10 Short Bed Pickup In 1973, the third generation Chevrolet, (and GMC), trucks were introduced as part of the Rounded Line and were designed, in part with the use of a wind tunnel. Interestingly, they are referred to in a colloquial way today as square bodies. But it's the second generation known as the Action Line where right angles appear with almost as much prominence on the vehicles. In either case and regardless of design differences, both are considered sought after classics today. For consignment, a C-series truck in the form of a 1972 Chevrolet C10 short bed pickup. It's got a newer crate engine, a rebuilt transmission and some new components that make this a classic ride that, we dare say, in some ways better than when it was original! And bonus, it's a short bed which seems to be the more desired configuration. Exterior Classically colored with a white cab over a bright red body in two stage paint, this presents as wonderful Americana. The front end is from 1967 which takes from the egg crate look of 1972 and included two distinct grille openings, one containing the marker lights. Panel gaps and bed separation are straight and true and so is the body. The back end looks great with Chevrolet painted and embossed on the tailgate and a chrome bumper that heads up dual exhaust peeking out underneath. The taillight design of these trucks will forever be cool in their simplicity. The bed has a roll back tonneau cover, and the clean bed floor is covered in spray liner. 18-inch Boss Motorsports wheels with 50-series tires are a great choice for the truck, which hunkers low over the wheels for more of a street scene stance. We note some bubbling on the bottom corner of the door as the only major imperfection. Interior Polished metal door cards present a mirror finish when you open the door. The window cranks and door actuators almost get lost in the bling, while the black plastic door pull is easy to find. Sheridan pattern embossed vinyl mimics black leather on the bench seat which is in excellent condition. A 3-spoke steering wheel is accompanied by a shifter and indicator on the column. That leads to the gauge cluster in a metallic panel on the red painted dash. An AM/FM radio sits above the vent controls and the glove box door also has a mirror finish. Loop style black carpet covers the floor and the bare ceiling is painted red. Drivetrain Our consignor states this is a fresh 350ci crate engine under the hood, topped by a 4-barrel carburetor and tied to a rebuilt TH350 3-speed automatic transmission that sends power to the 12 bolt rear. The engine bay is clean and presentable with polished valve covers and chrome air element. A brake booster is present to assist the disc brakes up front and drums in the rear! Undercarriage Relatively clean underneath with the dual exhaust taking center stage. The consignor says this is a newer system which enters a pair of stainless steel mufflers before exiting in the back. We note surface rust on the floor pans and incidences of invasive rust on the crossmember, body hangers, and parts of the belly pan. We also note some residual oil on the rear differential. Independent suspension is up front with coil springs, meanwhile trailing arms, coil springs and a panhard bar are out back, and per our consignor, is all new. Drive-Ability Quintessential 60's and 70's styling presents as a simple interior lacking computers and complications. Just get in, pump the gas, and turn the key. Up she starts and rolls confidently onto the test loop. The engine runs well but we do note a slight engine noise which may be internal, a loose torque converter bolt, or perhaps a cracked flex plate. Meanwhile, the brakes do their part when it's time to slow down and stop. The gauges and other functions work as expected. Here's a good looking truck that will benefit from some additional sorting out. A great color, a great stance and t
