The Mustang had roared back to the top of the American performance scene, thanks to Fox Body Mustangs powered by the 5.0L/225 HP High Output V-8. With their light weight, affordability and ease of modification, the fuel-injected “H.O.” Mustangs ruled the streets and strips, erasing the bad memories of the emissions-strangled cars of the 1970s. The GT looked much different from the base Mustang LX, thanks to sleeker aero styling with a no-grille front fascia, flush headlights, round fog lamps, wider lower rocker panels, a rear spoiler and louvered tail lights. A Quadra-shock rear suspension aided traction, as did the wide 225/60x15 Goodyear Eagle tires on turbine-style cast aluminum wheels. One day, not long ago, enthusiasts realized the once ubiquitous and iconic 5.0L Fox Body Mustang had become an increasingly rare sight—especially low-mileage, unmodified examples.
