1987 Mercedes-Benz 190-Class Overview

The 1987 Mercedes-Benz 190-Class, or 190E, is the standout member of the W201 series. During this generation, the 190E played a pivotal role in establishing Mercedes-Benz as a leader in the luxury compact segment. It came with two engine options: 2.0L inline-4 for the 190E 2.0 and 2.3L inline-4 for the 190E 2.3 version. Both models used a 4-speed automatic or 5-speed manual transmission. While it earned praise for its balanced handling and luxurious amenities, tech and safety features weren't as extensive as modern models. Standouts included power windows, Antilock Brake System (ABS), and a first-rate safety cell structure with crumple zones.
