1996 Ford Probe Overview

The 1996 Ford Probe, in its second and final generation, is a front-wheel drive sports compact coupe co-developed with Mazda. The standard engine was a 118-hp, 2.0-liter four-cylinder, but the GT trim introduced a potent 164-hp, 2.5-liter V6 engine. Both engines came paired with either a five-speed manual or four-speed automatic transmission. Its handling and responsive steering were appreciated by many. Amenities for the Probe included air conditioning, power windows, and an optional moonroof. However, the '96 model was noted for its compact rear seats and lack of anti-lock braking system in base trims.
