The 1997 Ford Taurus is part of the third generation of Taurus vehicles, known for having a rounder, more aerodynamic design than its predecessors. There were 7 trims available: the GL, LX, SE, SHO, SE, SE 862A, and SHO Plus. The car used a standard front-wheel drive system, with either a 3.0L V6 that produced 145 hp or a 3.4L V8 in the SHO model which delivered 235 hp. Both engines used a 4-speed automatic transmission. No notable tech features were present due to the era, and safety features only included dual front airbags and ABS. Notable in 1997 was the addition of the rear passenger-side door to the wagon model.
