The 2nd-generation 1997 Mitsubishi Eclipse is a compact sporty coupe known for its performance and style. It was available in four trims - the RS, GS, GS-T, and the AWD GSX. The base RS and GS models are equipped with a 2.0L 140-hp four-cylinder engine, whereas the GS-T variant receives a turbocharged version boosting the power up to 210 hp. The GSX, equipped with a similar turbocharged engine, benefits from an all-wheel-drive system. A 5-speed manual transmission was standard, with optional 4-speed automatic. Features included a power moonroof, a spoiler, alloy wheels, power windows and locks, and an optional Infinity sound system. It did not come with modern safety features, such as traction control, though it did have dual front airbags as standard.
