The 1999 BMW 5 Series forms part of the fourth generation of the marque’s executive sedan lineup, known as the E39. It comes with three engine choices - a 2.8-liter inline-six producing 193 hp, a robust 4.4-liter V8 churning out 282 hp, and the mighty M5's 4.9-liter V8 delivering a blistering 394 hp.
