The 1999 Ford Explorer is part of the SUV's second generation. Noted for its power, size and off-road capabilities, the 1999 Explorer came in seven trims, including XL, XLT, Eddie Bauer, and Limited. Engine options included a 4.0-liter V6 with either 160 or 210 horsepower, and a 5.0-liter V8 producing 215 horsepower, paired with either manual or automatic transmissions. All came standard with RWD, but 4WD was available. The Explorer came with a basic suite of safety features for the time, including dual front airbags and ABS. However, it lacked many of today's key safety features as standard equipment. Optional equipment included leather seats, keyless entry, and a CD player.
