The 1999 Mazda B-Series represents the peak of Mazda's foray into the small pickup segment, with a reputation for being durable and off-road ready. Available in two distinct trims, the B2500 and B4000, there was no shortage of customization options for buyers. Powertrain options varied from a 119-hp 2.5L four-cylinder engine to a more powerful 160-hp 4.0L V6, both mated to either a five-speed manual or four-speed automatic transmission. Rear-wheel drive was standard, with a shift-on-the-fly four-wheel-drive system optional for the B4000. Although sparse in terms of amenities compared to today's vehicles, this generation of B-Series still offered cassette players, bed liners, and optional air conditioning as a nod to comfort and convenience. Safety was somewhat rudimentary, with driver's airbags, but ABS brakes were an option.
