2001 Toyota MR2 Overview

The 2001 Toyota MR2 marks the third and final generation of this small, lightweight, mid-engine sports car. Packaged with a 1.8L four-cylinder engine with Variable Valve Timing with Intelligence (VVT-i) system, the MR2 produces 138-hp and comes with a standard 5-speed manual transmission or an optional sequential manual, effectively making it a semi-automatic. In its production era, the MR2 was most known for its nimble handling, surprising performance, distinctive look resembling a mini-supercar, and the joys of open-top motoring provided by its soft-top convertible roof. However, being a two-seater with limited trunk space, the MR2 is far from practical. Its rear-wheel drive configuration and mid-engine layout result in a highly balanced design that is a sheer joy to drive, with a strong reputation for reliability.
