The 2002 Chevrolet Express marked a strong offering in Chevrolet's line of full-size vans. The Express was offered in 1500, 2500, and 3500 model series, with options of extended wheelbase for more cargo or passenger space. Power was supplied from a variety of engines, ranging from a 4.3L V6 with 200-hp up to a capable 5.7L V8 delivering 255-hp. A 4-speed automatic transmission was standard across all trims. While not particularly plush, the Express was functional and durable, aimed at providing reliable service for work or passenger transport. It lacked some of the safety features of more recent models, but the sturdy body-on-frame build provided solid crash performance.
