The 2002 Mitsubishi Eclipse Spyder marks the penultimate year of the 3rd generation Eclipse, providing a fun and sporty open-top experience. The Spyder came in two trims: the GS and the GT. The GS came with a 2.4-liter inline-four engine generating 147 horsepower, while the more potent GT trim hosted a 3.0-liter V6 pushing out 200 horsepower, both paired with either a 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic transmission. Drivers praised the Spyder for its sporty handling, sturdy structure, and comfortable ride. Inside, the Spyder was equipped with an elegant and user-friendly interior, which included a CD player, power windows and locks, and optional leather upholstery. Unfortunately, despite its many merits, the 2002 Spyder lacked some crucial safety features present in its contemporaries, including stability control and side airbags.
