The 2003 Ford Explorer Sport Trac is an innovative crossover of the family-oriented Explorer SUV and the rugged Ranger pickup. Now in its second year, the Sport Trac offers the ability to carry both comfortably-seated passengers and a modest load of cargo. A 4.0L single-overhead-cam V6 engine rated at 210 horsepower at 5,200 rpm and 240 lb.-ft. of torque at 3,000 rpm powers either a rear-wheel or optional all-wheel drivetrain. The lone transmission is a five-speed automatic. A suite of safety features includes Ford's Personal Safety System (dual-stage front airbags, seat belt pre-tensioners, load-limiting retractors, and energy management retractors) and an optional Safety Canopy side curtain airbag system. A rear load floor that doubles as a tailgate extension when opened and a large removable center console are highlights on the inside.
