The 2003 Subaru Baja was something of an oddity in the automaker's lineup: a blend of car and pickup truck. Part of the first and only generation, the Baja was powered by a 2.5-liter flat-four engine producing 165 horsepower, coupled with a 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic transmission. All Bajas had Subaru's well-reviewed all-wheel-drive system for enhanced traction and performance. The model was available in base and Sport trims, both featuring a four-door cab and a small, open truck bed. Inside, the Baja impressed with its practical mix of durability and comfort, including cloth upholstery, full power accessories, and an 80-watt sound system. For safety, it offered standard dual front airbags. Its unique combination of car-like handling and pickup versatility wasn't for everyone, but it did give Subaru a unique niche in the market.
