The 2004 Buick Rainier is a five-passenger mid-size SUV from the first and only generation of this model. Two engine options were available: a 275-hp 4.2L I6 and a 5.3L V8 producing 290 hp, both mated to a 4-speed automatic transmission. Buyers had the option of either RWD or AWD. All trims featured leather seating and a Bose audio system, with optional features like navigation and a rear-seat DVD system. The Rainier stood out in its class with Buick’s signature smooth, quiet ride and a surprisingly robust towing capacity (up to 6700 lbs with the V8). The model did not come standard with modern safety or infotainment features. Its build quality and comfort were praised, but it received criticism for a lack of refinement compared to competitors.
