The 2004 Chevrolet Avalanche is part of the first generation of this unique full-size pickup/SUV hybrid. Available in two trims, the base and the upscale Z71, all models are powered by a standard 5.3L V8 engine with 295 horsepower, with a 4-speed automatic transmission, and a choice of rear-wheel drive or four-wheel drive. The Avalanche’s hallmark is its 'Midgate' system allowing a flexible configuration of cabin and cargo bed. Inside, standard features include a CD player and a multi-zone air conditioning, while higher trims offer a Bose sound system, leather and power seats. Safety highlights are ABS, stability control, and multiple airbags (front and side). Though lacking some modern infotainment features, the Avalanche was ahead of its time in offering a balance between truck utility and passenger comfort.
