The 2004 Toyota Matrix is a compact wagon, part of the first generation line which began production in 2002 and concluded in 2008. It was offered in three trims: Base, XR, and the sport-themed XRS. The base model featured a 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine that delivered up to 130 horsepower, mated to a standard five-speed manual transmission or optional four-speed automatic. An AWD version with a four-speed automatic was also available. The XRS model boasted a high-revving 180-hp version of the same engine. The Matrix offered practicality with its versatile cargo space and standard features such as power mirrors, full power accessories, and a CD player. However, the 2004 Matrix did not come standard with ABS, it was optional. It earned high marks for its nimble handling, fuel efficiency, and impressive reliability.
