The 2005 Jeep Liberty, part of the SUV's first generation, was offered in three trims: the Sport, Renegade, and top-tier Limited. Most models came standard with a 210-horsepower V6 engine, the exception being the Sport, which featured a 150-horsepower four-cylinder. A six-speed manual transmission was standard, but a four-speed automatic was optional. Despite its compact size, the Liberty was well-regarded for its off-road capabilities. Key safety features included front-impact airbags, height adjustable front seatbelts, and a security system with ignition disable. For entertainment, the Liberty offered an AM/FM radio and a CD player.
