Introduced in 2006, the Jeep Commander constituted a new layer of luxury above the existing Grand Cherokee model. Described as the most spacious Jeep vehicle ever, the Commander offered three rows of seating accommodating up to seven people. It was available in two trims – base and Limited. The base model came with a 210-hp, 3.7-liter V6, while the Limited model got a 4.7-liter V8 raising it to 235 horsepower. A third engine, a 5.7-liter Hemi V8, was available optionally on the Limited, offering a robust 330 horsepower. As a hallmark of Jeep brand, it offered unrivaled off-road capability with two four-wheel-drive systems, Quadra-Trac I and Quadra-Trac II, along with the high-end Quadra-Drive II. Safety features included stability control, All-speed Traction Control System, side curtain airbags for all three rows, and optional rear backup camera.
