The 2006 Volkswagen New Beetle, now in its 2nd generation, is a 2-door compact car that is available as a coupe or convertible. It is equipped with a choice of 2.5L inline-5 engine delivering 150 hp or a turbocharged 1.9L diesel inline-4 producing 100 hp. Linked to a five-speed manual transmission, automated four-speed or six-speed transmission options are available. Front-wheel drive is standard across the lineup. The New Beetle gains a new package for 2006 that includes 17-inch alloy wheels, fog lights, front sport seats, and a host of plush convenience features. Other major features include cruise control, keyless entry, and full power accessories. Safety-wise, the Beetle comes with antilock brakes, stability control, front-side airbags and active front head restraints. The 2006 model year did not carry any substantial changes.
