The 2008 Jeep Compass is part of the compact crossover SUV's first generation produced from 2006 to 2016. It offers two trims: the base Sport and the more luxurious Limited. Both trims come standard with a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine generating 172 horsepower, and an antiquated CVT transmission. A five-speed manual transmission is also available. Front-wheel drive is standard, but Jeep offers two four-wheel-drive systems for off-roading - Freedom Drive I and the more off-road-oriented Freedom Drive II. Inside, the Compass features a simple but functional dashboard design. In terms of technology, expect a basic AM/FM radio and CD player; advanced infotainment systems were not the norm in this era. Standard safety features include front-seat side airbags and full-length curtain-type airbags, but stability control is notably absent from the base Sport model.
