The 2009 Dodge Caliber is a compact hatchback available in four trims: SE, SXT, R/T, and performance-oriented SRT4. Base models are powered by a modest 1.8L four-cylinder engine producing 148 hp, or opt for the 2.0L or 2.4L for more punch. Optional continuously variable transmission (CVT) lacks the traditional shift points of an automatic. The SRT4 comes with a turbocharged 2.4L four-cylinder delivering an impressive 285 hp, paired with a six-speed manual. The interior is functional with tech highlights of a Chill Zone beverage cooler and optional MusicGate Power sound system. However, notable criticism includes a budget-looking interior and a rough and noisy ride. Safety features include anti-lock brakes, stability control, front-seat side airbags and full-length side curtain airbags.
