The 2009 Jeep Compass represents the last model year of its first generation, produced from 2007–2016. The compact SUV comes with one of two 4-cylinder engines, yielding 158 or 172 horsepower, and mated to a 5-speed manual or CVT automatic transmission. Primarily a front-wheel-drive vehicle, all trims are available with four-wheel drive for off-road versatility. Two trims were available: the base Sport and the upgraded Limited, both featuring antilock brakes, stability and traction control, and front-seat side airbags as key safety features. The Compass also includes an AM/FM/CD stereo with MP3 ability, accompanied by optional perks like Bluetooth connectivity, satellite radio, and a navigation system. Its crossover nature attempts to blend on-road handling of a car with the rugged design Jeep is known for.
