The 2009 Volvo S40 is a compact luxury sedan known for its premium interior and strong safety features. There were two trims available: the base 2.4i and the performance-oriented T5, which has a turbocharged engine. The 2.4i offered a 2.4-liter five-cylinder engine producing 168 horsepower. The T5 model came with a more powerful 2.5-liter turbocharged engine that produced 227 horsepower, and available in both front-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive configurations. Both models featured a five-speed automatic transmission. Standard infotainment features for this year included eight-speaker audio system, an auxiliary input, and satellite radio. Importantly, Volvo emphasized safety with standard features including anti-lock brakes, stability control, front-seat side airbags, full-length side curtain airbags, and whiplash-reducing front seats.
