The 2011 BMW 5 Series is part of the vehicle's sixth generation. A marriage of elegance and athleticism, it was offered in sedan and Gran Turismo body styles. Two main trims were available: the 535i and 550i. The 535i was powered by a 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six making 300-hp while the 550i received a 4.4-liter turbocharged V8 pumping out 400-hp, both driven through an 8-speed automatic or 6-speed manual gearbox, with RWD standard and xDrive AWD optional. Inside, highlights included a premium interior with a 10.2-inch display featuring iDrive, and options for navigation and a head-up display. Safety features were comprehensive, including stability and traction control, antilock brakes, front-seat side airbags, side curtain airbags and front and rear parking sensors. Notably, the 5 Series Gran Turismo introduced that year featured a unique trunk/hatch design for greater cargo versatility.
