The 2012 Tesla Model S marked the start of Tesla's venture into electric vehicles. This first generation Model S offered three battery options: 40, 60, or 85 kWh, with the higher-end options producing an impressive 362-hp or 416-hp for the top-spec Performance variant. The Model S broke convention with its single-speed transmission, rear-wheel drive, and lack of an internal combustion engine. Its key features were its bold 17-inch touchscreen infotainment system, navigation, Wi-Fi connectivity, and comprehensive safety suite, including eight airbags. This model lacked the well-known Autopilot system, which was introduced later. The Model S' debut set a new standard for EV performance and luxury.
