The 2014 Volkswagen Passat represents its sixth-generation, coming from a lineage dating back to the 1970s. It’s a midsize sedan that boasts of a roomy, high-quality cabin and efficient engine lineup. Powertrain options range from a 1.8-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine putting out 170 horsepower to a 3.6-liter V6 with 280 horsepower. There's even a 2.0-liter turbo-diesel variant that dishes out 140 horsepower but a laudable 236 lb-ft of torque. Front-wheel drive and a six-speed automatic transmission are standard across all trims, though a six-speed manual is available on certain models. Available trims include the base S, Wolfsburg, SE, Sport, SEL and TDI. Engaging tech highlights include a touchscreen interface and an optional Fender audio system. On the safety side, there's anti-lock disc brakes, traction and stability control, front side airbags and full-length side curtain airbags.
