The 2016 BMW X1 is a luxury compact crossover, part of the second-generation X1 series. It offers one trim level, the xDrive28i, which is powered by a 228-hp turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive. Key safety features include antilock disc brakes, stability and traction control, front side airbags, full-length curtain-type airbags and front knee airbags. BMW's Assist eCall system, which provides automatic crash notification and on-demand roadside assistance, also comes standard. The X1 boasts a well-executed 6.5-inch infotainment system as a standard feature, with the option to upgrade to a larger 8.8 inch system, and both are compatible with iPhone and Android smartphones. Notably, the 2016 X1 received a complete redesign from the previous generation, improving interior quality and increasing cargo space.
