The 2018 BMW 5 Series is part of the 7th generation of this luxury midsize lineup. Available in four trims: 530i, 540i, 530e iPerformance, and M550i xDrive, every model has an 8-speed automatic transmission. Engine options range from a fuel-efficient 248-hp four-cylinder in the 530i, to a 456-hp V8 in the M550i xDrive. xDrive all-wheel drive is standard in the M550i and optional on other trims. Features include a standard 10.2-inch infotainment screen with iDrive software, available Apple CarPlay, and a variety of active safety tech as part of the Driving Assistance package. Notably, 2018 was the first year for the M550i trim and also saw a revision of some package options.
