The Advanced Design Chevrolet was treated to a complete concours restoration and repainted by the Carolina Rod Shop in Piedmont, SC between December 2017 and March 2020. Car Cave has stacks of receipts, and the work done to the vehicle totals upwards of $230,000 - including the beautiful repaint in Ford Dark Blue Pearl (paint code DX/7083). Legend has it that some Mercedes Pearl paint was mixed in, but we have no records of that happening- we can just see how opalescent the sheen is. Really, you have to see this vehicle in person to believe how beautiful the paint is. The running boards are still covered in their original plastic to protect the finish!

235 CID Blue Flame Chevrolet Corvette Engine
Automatic with Power Features
With less than 350 miles put on this vehicle after its restoration, this vehicle is eye-catching for all the right reasons. Not only is it beautiful, but the mechanicals of this vehicle have been meticulously restored and upgraded. The original frame is still present, with the ibeam front suspension and steering, as well as the original cab and body. The transmission was upgraded with the Lokar Performance Products TH400 automatic transmission kit and a Corvette 235 Blue Flame in-line 6 Engine was installed, giving this vehicle a performance build with a racing cam on an original chassis. Stored in a climate-controlled facility since its restoration, no weather of any kind has dimmed the paint or tarnished the chrome.
Our history file on this vehicle begins in 1995, when this vehicle was purchased for use as a wash car at the Hunter Chevrolet in Hendersonville, NC where it stayed for twenty-one years. It was sold in January 2017 to L. Beard who brought it to the Carolina Rod Shop in South Carolina. The extensive work done on this vehicle was not only for restoration, but modernization. The engine and transmission have been rebuilt, the transmission has been swapped from manual to automatic, the exterior has been completely restored and rotisserie-painted, and the interior fitted with features to elevate every drive. The Vintage Air air conditioning system is perfect for driving through the southern summer. With an updated radio and easy-close hinges so the doors never slam, all the tiny details turn this ride into a luxury experience. The bed of the truck has been redone in ash wood and stained and sealed in varathane premium carbon gray and the tailgate hinges and chains have been refinished and refined.
The interior boasts dark graphite suede and leather bench seat with a custom removable console and cup holders. The vehicle has a beautiful VHX analog/ digital gauge system, air conditioning, a suede headliner and door cards. The hand crank windows roll down easily, and the installed dome light illuminates the darkest corners. With a stunning wrap-around rear windows and a magnificent engine, the Lokar automatic gear shifter disguised as a stick shift on the floor, and room to stretch out your feet on the carpeted floor, driving this vehicle is like taking a spin through the 1950's - but so much more comfortable.
