1997 Land Rover Defender 90 Station Wagon · NAS Defender Exported to Japan When New · 50-State Legal - Currently Titled and Registered in California VIN: SALDV3240VA128821 Mileage: 90,723 Original Miles 4.0L V8 Petrol Efi HC 4-Speed Automatic Transmission 3 Door Station Wagon, LHD Alpine White with a Custom Grey Interior This is a North American Spec (NAS) Land Rover Defender that was redirected and exported to Japan by Land Rover when new, due to the airbag regulations that were mandated in the US for 1998. Many, like this one are being reimported to USA because they are 50-state legal and smog compliant. This is a very well sorted and tastefully upgraded D-90. It was purchased by a longtime client (and friend) from Toprank Motorworks in 2021who imported it back from Japan. It was as highly original example that would have passed the test for just about any enthusiast, but not this enthusiast. Being a fanatic for fit, finish, and function, this lovely example received a significant amount of work that was completed by all the best vendors in Southern California. Starting with Henderson's Car Audio for a security system along with a conversion from manual to power door locks with remote keyless entry, new stereo speakers, and an upgraded head unit with smart phone integration and charging. The electronics upgrade was followed by a complete interior restoration by Universal Auto & Marine Upholstery. Using high-quality German Vinyl and Square Weave German wool carpets throughout including door panels and headliner. During this process numerous interior plastic pieces were replaced with OEM new, giving the cabin a fully restored and upgraded finish. New weatherstripping and windshield glass were also fitted at this time. European motor car works completed the exterior restoration with touch ups to the paint and the body panels and doors were adjusted for superior alignment. This was followed by having the exhaust removed and reinstalled with all new hangars and a new muffler and the A/C overhauled. Five new Michelin Defender LTX M/S tires were installed. Since then, regular maintenance has been performed during the 5,000 miles of reliable usage in the five years of ownership. Included in the sale are three full sets of keys, an owner's manual set in English and another in Japanese and receipts for the work performed, plus quite a few little things not worth listing here. This is a fully sorted and 50-State Legal Defender 90 that won't drive you nuts with weekend projects and nagging disappointments.
