2016 Ford Escape SE

Ford makes cars for Americans. We like them comfy but rugged, powerful yet efficient, slick but brawny. The Ford Escape is a compact crossover that manages to balance these requirements well. The engine is small, only a 2.0L I4, but the turbo gives it both 240 horsepower and decent gas mileage (21mpg in the city; 28mpg on the highway). With the small size of the car, that makes driving it a breeze. Enough power to drive as aggressively or defensively as you'd like, small enough to park in San Francisco, and comfortable enough to ride the interstate for mile after mile.

The seats are gray leather, which avoids the heat build up of the California sun and the easily dirtied tan interiors of other cars. Ford leather seats are built for distance driving, so the power seat for the driver is manipulatable in enough directions to make any driver comfortable for quick trips or extended journeys. The infotainment system is simple and everything we've tried on it so far, including the Bluetooth. The Car Dad is taller than me, and I'm 6'2", and he likes this car for his ability to get in and out of it easily, so this car really can fit just about everyone. This car has comfortable space in the front and back, and the seats fold down for extending cargo space, and there are roof racks if you need even more.
