This van came come Coca-Cola in sunny California and has been converted by them as part of a program to add fuel economy and reduce emissions on their service vans. The add on was done by XL Fleet’s Hybrid division and that company is still in business. There is a lithium-ion battery pack under the rear of the van that gets energy from regenerative braking and powers and electric motor. This motor supplements the gas engine to get 20% more mileage per tank and reduce emissions by 20%. If the system fails there is a bypass mode that allows the van to function as a normal gasoline powered van.
