1993 Chevrolet Camaro Indy Pace Car The Indianapolis 500 auto race has used a pace car every year since 1911. The pace car is utilized for two primary purposes. At the start of the race, the pace car leads the assembled starting grid around the track for a predetermined number of un-scored warm-up laps. Then if the officials deem appropriate, it releases the field at a purposeful speed to start the race. In addition, during yellow flag caution periods, the pace car enters the track and picks up the leader, bunching the field up at a reduced speed. A crack free dash houses all the essentials, and a tight headliner looks down on all this amazing activity going on in the fabric pattern. Drivetrain A 350ci LT1 with aluminum heads, EFI, and 275hp, sits in an original and fairly clean engine bay. It is backed by a 4L60E 4 speed automatic, a 10 bolt 3.23 Posi rear, and plenty of power. Undercarriage Framing the original exhaust system, we note very light surface rust nonstructural parts, and as expected form a 27 mile car. Floor pans and rockers, toe kicks and lower door panels are all rust free. Independent coil springs for the front, and a torque arm are for the rear suspension. Power disc brakes are on all 4 corners. With full intention of buying this car, then putting it right into storage, it has now been time capsuled out, and brought back for the world to behold.
