For Sale: 1975 Volkswagen Beetle Convertible
A Brief History of the Beetle
When the first Volkswagen Type 1 rolled off the production line in 1945, it was simply known as “The People’s Car.†Its instantly recognizable shape earned nicknames worldwide, including Käfer, Vocho, Coccinelle, Fusca, and Maggiolino. With over 21.5 million first-generation Beetles sold, it remains one of the most popular cars of all time. Praised for its innovative and economical design, the Beetle was compact, practical, and affordable to buy and maintain. Its air-cooled engine required less maintenance and was easier to repair than many American cars of the era. Over time, the Beetle became a symbol of freedom and individuality — and in the U.S., it also represented counter-culture, peace, and unity. After a remarkable 70-year run, Volkswagen retired the Beetle in 2019.
