For Sale: 1973 Volkswagen Beetle Convertible
Brief History
The Volkswagen Beetle, originally known as the Type 1 or "The People’s Car," first debuted in 1945. Its instantly recognizable shape earned nicknames worldwide—Käfer, Vocho, Coccinelle, Fusca, and Maggiolino, among others. With over 21.5 million first-generation models sold, the Beetle remains one of the most popular and beloved cars in history.
Praised for its innovative air-cooled engine, the Beetle was compact, practical, and affordable to own and maintain. Its engine required less upkeep and was easier to repair than many U.S.-made cars of the era. The Beetle also became a symbol of freedom, individuality, and counterculture movements in the United States. Volkswagen retired the Beetle in 2019, 70 years after it was introduced to the U.S. market.
