In 1972, the “107” body style luxury/sports car Mercedes-Benz roadster was introduced, using the manufacturer’s first V-8 engine in the 350SL. In 1981, the 380SL was introduced in the same body style with a fuel-injected 3.8 litre, twin cam engine with a 4-speed automatic engine, now responsible for a top speed of 127 miles per hour – much higher than the previous 6-cylinder “111” style roadsters. In 1984, the 380SL was improved to twin timing chains. The new car was equipped with climate control, cruise control, electric windows and locks, 4-wheel dower disc brakes, twin remote outside rear view mirrors, factory fog lamps, a hidden convertible top and a detachable hard top. Our car spent its first 19 years and 95,000 miles with just one owner in St. Petersburg, Florida before being purchased by its second owner, a local enthusiast who drove it as a week-end car, adding just @5,000 miles in the next 22 years. Beautiful in its original color of Signal Red with a gorgeous Palomino interior with polished Burlwood trim, the car is fitted with later 15” chrome Mercedes-Benz wheels, replacing the original 14” alloys, and a JVC AM/FM/CD stereo system replacing the original AM-FM unit. The car drives beautifully and presents in the same way. Original manuals (the service manual is punctually stamped through its 60K service accompany the car.
