Seller's Notes

1959 Plymouth Sport Fury 2 Door Hardtop The Forward Look body for Plymouth in 1959 had been restyled in a rather flamboyant fashion, and the front end of the car was bold and featured a latticework grille that was full width, quad headlights and a large bumper with a lower valance panel that had the look of a scooped jet intake. On the rear, the stabilizing fins were modified from the previous years with a new longer, sweeping size and thinner shape, slightly canted outward. The tail lights were moved down and used built in back up lights, cleaning up the rear and providing a look of width and lowness. Thx dodgegarage.com  For consignment, a 1959 Plymouth Sport Fury hardtop showing 74,009 miles, but the true miles are unknown. Retaining its epic lines and over the top fins, this one presents as a diamond in the rough and while just one year from the Christine movie car, this one still harkens back to that now iconic car. And while Christine had a mind of her own, her cousin here will need some outside intervention to bring her up to par.       Exterior The design is eye catching, and this one wears a tattered dress of Flame Red replete with a patina that you could clearcoat and call it a day! A white insert between bold polished trim travels the length of the car, also in rough shape but straight, with plenty of real estate above this center trim feature. The front edge points sharply forward, creating a sculpted brow over what Plymouth called floating headlights, then the straight shoulder line runs all the way to the back window where it is met by a rising fin that takes off like Evel Knievel at the Snake River Canyon, then turns 90 degrees downward, like Evel, in a bladed vertical rear edge. The rear fascia is a conglomeration of curved panels, protruding oval tail light housing, and an enveloping massive rear bumper, while the huge curved rear window creates an interior greenhouse. Surface rust, scratches, scuffs, filler, bubbling, and some true rust of the lower chrome trim and rear quarters are all part of this project Sport Fury.     Interior One door panel is in place, a mix of red and white vinyl bands with lots of age, but the driver's side is missing and its chrome header is rusted. We meet the red vinyl bucket seats with white piping and center armrest are in decent condition, slightly discolored but fully intact and the rear bench is very nice, flanked by rusted chrome headers on the sidewalls. The acrylic steering wheel with brown center grips has yellowed with age and the full horn ring is in place with decorative bullet accents. The space age dash is a wild design, based in black framing, the speedometer panel is reminiscent of Robot from Lost In Space and flanked by two rows of long push buttons that control the transmission on the left and the climate controls on the right, backed by a textured metal panel, all with substantial patina. To the right, a padded dash cover is above the AM radio, a clock, and the glove box, all in consistent condition. Red loop carpet covers the floor and heavily faded in most areas and underneath we note a newer floor pan added to the passenger side. A button backed white headliner is tired, but incredibly fancy and deserved a comeback! The trunk is barren and shows some dampness intrusion. Drivetrain Despite the tattered hood insulator, the 350ci V8 under the hood is amazingly clean and is topped by an Edelbrock 4-barrel under the air cleaner canister. Behind it, a Powerflite 2-speed automatic routes power to 3.31 gears in back. Drum brakes are employed on all four wheels.  Undercarriage  The underside is covered with surface rust and flaking, invasive rust in some places. There's a build up of grime on the rear differential, frame, and other areas. That said, the gas tank appears to be newer as do the rear shocks. Dual exhaust encounters FlowMaster mufflers and eventually find their way to the rear to exit under the car. Suspension consists of
