Car number 177 is straight out of a prominent Group B Rally Collection. 1986, the Peugeot 205 Turbo 16 had established itself as the dominant force in the World Rally Championship, overcoming strong competition from Audi and Lancia. In just three years, it achieved 16 victories in 26 races and secured consecutive Drivers' and Manufacturers' titles, its success curtailed only by the end of Group B regulations. Capitalizing on the relaxed technical requirements of Group B, Peugeot produced 200 road-legal versions of the 205 Turbo 16. While it shared only a superficial resemblance to the standard model, this version featured a rear-mounted 1.8-liter turbocharged engine paired with an advanced viscous-coupled four-wheel drive system, all beneath a racing-inspired hinged rear clamshell. Despite its output of approximately 200 horsepower being lower than some rivals, it could reach 60 mph in under seven seconds, with a top speed of 132 mph. This specific car, the 177th road-legal Turbo 16 produced, was originally delivered to Sheikh Abdullah bin Khalifa Al-Thani of Qatar in black (believed to be the only black 205 Turbo 16!). Regularly driven in London, it was maintained by Peugeot dealers Warwick Wright in Chiswick. The Sheikh owned it until July 2007, after which it had only 8,062 kilometers on the odometer. The car then transferred to Hafid Dilaimi, who used it sparingly, adding just 28 kilometers before selling it to Tom Kirby of Stroud, Gloucestershire, in January 2013. Under Kirby's care, the vehicle was meticulously maintained and readied for concours events, with a notable appearance at the Salon Privé at Blenheim Palace. In January 2022, it underwent an extensive service at BGMSport in Brackley, Northamptonshire, costing nearly $14,000. This service included cambelt, filter, and fluid changes, along with new clutch and brake master cylinders, refurbishment of all wheels, and professional detailing. By appointment only.
