In 1990 Ford marked the 35th anniversary of the Thunderbird with a special edition of the top-of-the-line 'Super Coupe' and commemorative \"35th Anniversary\" status with just 3,371 examples being built. Ford was serious enough about preventing counterfeit cars that the fender badges were designed to disintegrate if removed, and to protect the cars, each came with a custom-fitted cover supplied by the same company that sews covers for Rolls-Royce, the cover for this car being still present and unused and in its original collector bag.
