1984 Chevrolet Corvette Coupe Challenge. A total new design. Not of a car. Of a legend. This will be a new chapter in a proud history. There is a unique 30 year heritage to be upheld. Upheld, and enhanced. So, make it new, strikingly new. Make it trim, taut, and thoroughly contemporary. Make it timeless and intelligent. Clearly the new Corvette would have to be more than just a new Corvette. It would have to be a better Corvette. Corvettemuseum.org For consignment, a 1984 Chevrolet Corvette couple with a title verified 28,437 actual miles. This is a one owner car in the most popular color for 1984. Bright Red was number one by a longshot, with 12,942 units, to second place Black paint with 7,906 cars. Common maybe in 1984 but finding one in near pristine condition some 40 years later is like a needle in a haystack. Until now. Exterior In 1984, it was as if a spaceship had landed in the United States in the form of the new C4, and while the press cars were almost always Gold Metallic, most built were Bright Red, a color long associated with America's sports car and most desired. Composite lights were inset in the bumper cover holding the marker lights and fog light in one continuous lens while the headlights were hidden under trap doors on the hood which was wider and flatter than any previous Vette. The ever present gills remained as two vents on the front quarter but the cool factor was multiplied by the words CROSS FIRE INJECTION engraved in the side molding. What is that? Didn't matter, it just sounded cool and new. After years of rounded tails on later C3's, the flat back returned with big, circle dual tail lights filling their own cylinders. 16-inch wheels were new for the C4 too, and looked great and on this car, house the only exterior imperfection, some minor curb rash. Interior Red on red means just about everything on the inside is color matched, beginning on the door panels of molded plastic over a carpeted kick panel with speakers and hardware in black, both looking clean here. Up front, red leather bucket seats, high backed and supportive with some light patina creasing on the driver's side. After the leather wrapped steering wheel, it's all 80's with the C4's touted digital instrument cluster with arching graphics and segmented digits in square gauges with the center info controlled by a toggle panel to the right, just above the AM/FM/Cassette with CD changer and A/C panel, all in black with distinctive GM font. A flat center console houses the shifter and its leather handle and seat controls retreat to a cove in the console, just beyond window switches. The red carpet has held up very well and completely covers the footwells and rear cargo area that help confirm this car's low mileage and likely garaged existence. There are brackets to stow the glass targa top when open air driving is desired.  Drivetrain The entire front clip pivots forward to reveal unusual access to the spaceship's powerplant with a large plastic plenum on top and those magical words about injection written on each side. The bay shows some general patina from age but is clean and is housing the 350ci V8 with cross fire fuel injection and rated at 205 horsepower, moving power through a 200R4 4-speed transmission to the rear axle with 3.07 gears and limited slip. Power disc brakes hide behind those modern wheels and are found on all four wheels. Undercarriage Changes in metal color are mostly a result of time rather than use and so patina shows up on untreated metal on this clean underside. Dual exhaust still travels through the original equipment mufflers before existing unceremoniously under the car, without the flash of chrome tips, stock configuration rarely seen. The belly pans look great and the stock suspension exists with a front single fiberglass composite monoleaf transverse spring with unequal length aluminum control arms and stabilizer bar. The rear comes to us as a fully independent 3 link system wi
