53,620 miles
1974 MG MGB Roadster The year 1974 was a crucial one in MGB history, as it was the year when the world's most beloved British sports car underwent the most radical changes in its 18 year lifespan. The earliest 1974 models, built in the fall of calendar year 1973, retained the small chrome bumper overriders with slender rubber tips used since 1970. The U.S. market MGBs built in January 1974 received updated large rubber block overriders, complying with our then new NHTSA regulations. For consignment, a 1974 MG MGB showing 53,632 miles, but the true miles are unknown. These fun little cars represent an economical gateway into the world of classic cars and you don't need a huge space to store them! This car comes to you with a new radiator, newer exhaust and car cover, and rebuilt carburetors. Exterior Patsy Cline sang, why can't you be blue over me? and this MGB answers with single stage Cosmic Blue Metallic paint. Over the course of production, MGB's were available in dozens of color choices and many blues and you can see why as it's a very nice color for the car, still providing a satin shine embellished by a polished body length trim piece, chrome bumpers, and 14-inch wire wheels. There's a robin's egg blue pinstripe wrapped around the car which meets a white pinstripe floral detail around the trunk latch and it's here where you'll find a chrome luggage rack for those weekend jaunts in the country. A newer black canvas top takes in three rear plastic windows, all in nice shape. The grille wears a red badge and frames black mesh in polished chrome, flanked by recessed headlights wearing matching polished rings. Imperfections include rust bubbling, touched up and untouched chips, scratches, and peeling paint in a seam. Interior Loose fitting black vinyl covers the door panels in the MG standard configuration, generally a handsome arrangement of patterns and trim. Nice vinyl seats take center stage in the cabin where their weave patterned inserts and robust headrests create an inviting cushion for right pedal pushin and are in nice condition. A black rubber steering wheel fronts an instrument cluster with colored indicator lights and some patina throughout including some cracking on the dash pad. To the right, a Blaupunkt AM/FM/Cassette unit resides over some toggles and knobs in a console that leads to the black booted shifter. Black loop carpet covers the floor and also loosely over the storage shelf behind the seats, while the trunk is uncovered and housing a spare wire wheel.  Drivetrain Two rebuilt SU carburetors highlight the 1.8 liter four cylinder engine, rated at 78.5 horsepower and tied to a 4-speed manual transmission sending power to 3.909 gears in back. Brakes are configured as discs in front and drums on the rear wheels. The bay appears in clean, driver quality condition with easy access to all components, including the new radiator. Undercarriage Polished headers and stainless Bell mufflers from England pop with bling on the underside that is otherwise driver quality with typical surface rust on heavy metal components and some residual oil on the pan, transmission and rear differential. Suspension consists of coil springs up front and leaf springs in the back. Drive-Ability Ever nimble and made comfortable with decent sized seats, the car starts up eagerly and provides a pleasant exhaust note as we row the gears onto the test loop where the MG tracks straight, handles well, and stops quickly. We note the heater blower switch is broken and the right turn signal is not working. All other functions operate as they should. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase. If you're looking for a classic British roadster and are not interested in filling the den with trophies, this little runabout is the cure to boring weekend drives. MG clubs are f
