2001 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am WS6 Convertible 2010 marked the final year for the Pontiac Motor Division at GM and eight years earlier, the last Trans Am rolled off the assembly line, much to the chagrin of Firebird loyalists throughout North America. But the car that came in like a lion, left like a lion harboring 325 horsepower under the hood with the LS series V8. In 2001, more than 20,000 Firebirds were built and among them, just 679 of them were WS6 convertibles. For consignment, a 2001 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am WS6 convertible with a title verified 71,322 actual miles. During our consignor's ownership, he has made repairs and improvements to the car and performed regular maintenance work that includes transmission and radiator fluid replacement, as well as new belts and battery. Exterior There's no hiding the aggressive front end of this car, no matter what color paint adorns it, but Bright Red is a great choice. It is one of the great faces, with inset marker lights molded into the corners, fog lights deep within two round tunnels, and then the Ram Air set up, quad scoops, stacked in front to capture all of the air the moving car can inhale. What air it misses, ride the hills and valleys of the hood, finding their way to a steeply raked windshield where the air continues its travels over the black canvas top and along the ironing board-like rear wing. The aggressive face gives way to a more rounded tail with curved plexiglass that covers the red lenses, black hexagons creating a contrast with the red bumper cover and a rear valance that provides two tunnels for the exhaust, in this case, a single pipe on each side. 17-inch chrome wheels carry 40 series tires and Pontiac center caps. Imperfections include touched up scratches and chips and some curb rash. Not bad at all! And, our consignor notes the top was replaced in 2020! Interior Standard Ebony door panels with textured plastic and gray buttons show no wear. Black leather bucket seats are sports car focused and have prominent side bolsters and the accordion style flex zone used in Trans Ams since the late 1980's GTAs, the driver's seat showing a touch of compression, while the rear 2+2 seats also look great. The beefy black steering wheel is sculpted for good grip and houses gray buttons for radio control. A standard dash continues the monochromatic interior, and the center stack features large, gray plastic buttons and knobs for radio and climate controls while a leather handled shifter is in the center console. Low pile charcoal carpet is in good shape and protected by carpeted mats and the rear cargo area is lined with gray cloth panels and has a deep well for gym bag and grocery storage. Or more appropriately, your car show chairs and cooler! Drivetrain Under the hood and set back to the firewall is the potent 5.7 liter LS1 V8 rated at a healthy 325 horsepower and set into motion here by a 4L60E 4-speed automatic transmission. Power is routed to the 10 bolt axle with 3.23 gears and Positraction. We're in the modern age with this performance car, so power disc brakes are the only option to slow this bird down, and they're at all four wheels. The bay presents cleanly. Undercarriage Driver quality here with typical surface rust on heavy metal components and the pans are dry as a bone! The single exhaust runs the length of the car, finds a FlowMaster muffler, and is set out into the atmosphere via two tailpipes with chrome tips. Suspension onboard includes coil springs up front and coil springs with a torque arm in the back. A sway bar link kit was added in 2021, front struts and rear shocks were replaced in 2022. Drive-Ability What has all the fun of a Corvette with two extra seats? A WS-6, of course! The V8 starts right up, we put the T-shifter into Drive and head out onto the tarmac where the T/A does what T/A's do, handle well, go fast, and turn on a dime. With the top up, mind your side mirrors because those C-pillars cover a
