Seller's Notes

1970 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible Some cars you have to handle with kid gloves. Not so with Corvette. Because under that sleek hull is a sports car capable of handling any road you'd care to put before it. Behind the fat tires are disc brakes all around and an advanced fully independent suspension. That glues Corvette down to roads most other cars just can't come to grips with. Under that long stretch of hood, a standard 300hp V8. All backed up by a 4-speed shift and Positraction rear axle. From a 1970 Corvette print ad.  For consignment, a 1970 Chevrolet Corvette convertible with 22,012 miles, but the true miles are unknown. Owned by our consignor since 2017, the second of only two claimed owners, this car comes with the desirable accessory hardtop and of course, the canvas soft top. It also comes to you with its original hood. Best of all, it has its numbers matching M21 transmission onboard and original window sticker.  Exterior The aftermarket L88 style hood is impressive and striking in the paint configuration that wraps ivory white paint around the cowl, making the 454 emblems on the side more visible. This feature is a nice blend with the white canvas top and a contrast to the Bridgehampton Blue single stage paint on the car. This refers to the race track in New York of course and is an attractive color that also coats the accompanying hardtop. Fender gills on this model are egg crate style with slats canted rearward to allow hot air to flow freely. The flared tail of the car forms a slight wing and takes in the iconic quad tail lights that include the reverse lights. 15-inch Cragar SS wheels carry staggered size tires, the rears extending past the slightly flared fenders for a race ready look. The chrome wheels blend with the chrome bumpers and bezels that surround the exhaust tips. Imperfections include some tattered fiberglass at a wheel opening, scratches including some touched up, checking in the paint, and some grooved marring.  Interior Simulated woodgrain enhanced just about everything in the 70's, (remember paneling in your living room?), and it certainly warms up the black plastic door panels here and leans back in the same way the armrest does. Black leather bucket seats present nicely with the typical wrinkles of a well worn leather jacket, character without looking damaged. Finger grooves line the black steering wheel that leads to the two large gauges ahead, augmented by the aeronautical arrangement of smaller gauges in the center stack over the AM/FM radio. The center console is where you'll find the vent and fan controls, designed long before cupholders above horizontal surfaces was a thing, obviously. Within the woodgrain faced bezel is the T-handle Hurst shifter and the H-pattern diagram, and just like a musician with charts, it's useful no matter how many times you've shifted! Black carpet covers the floor cleanly up front, protected by modest Corvette rubber mats while the carpet in the rear cargo area shows some usage but is mostly clean and intact. Drivetrain Under the hood is an impressive but not original 454ci V8 with massive, polished valve covers and a 4-barrel carburetor on top. It's backed by the numbers matching Muncie M21 4-speed manual that sends power to 3.70 gears in back with Positraction. Also inside the clean engine bay is fitted the brake booster which powers up the disc brakes at all four wheels.  Undercarriage Clean conditions prevail underneath with a touch of residual oil but almost no surface rust to speak of on metal components. The dual exhaust finds stock style mufflers just before exiting via square polished tips. Suspension is made up of coil springs in front, and Corvette's unique independent rear suspension is present and capped off with transverse leaf springs.  Drive-Ability The first thing we notice after the booming exhaust note, is that the brake pedal is soft and goes to the floor, so we're going to make sure we have plenty of open
