Seller's Notes

1964 Chevrolet Malibu SS Hardtop Chevelle Malibu Super Sport, a young, let's get on with it kind of car. Youthful luxury and style! Inside and outside. But it's when you want to make time, that's when Chevelle's your baby. Chevelle, a great highway performer. Built to thrive on great chunks of distance and when you're heading for the horizon, here's a car that gets there in a hurry thanks to its new, zestful V8 engine. From a 1964 commercial. For consignment, a 1964 Chevrolet Malibu SS hardtop showing 9,023 miles, but the true miles are unknown. This baby has a rebuilt 327ci V8 backed by a Muncie M20 and presents cleanly, inside and out. We're always thrilled to have another legend, the Malibu SS, in our Hallowed Halls. Exterior The glimmer of this paint can only mean one thing, we've got two stage coverage here in Silver Blue, the car's original color now expertly applied with modern materials, coating this period boxy car beautifully. A polished trim line hugs the rear fender, runs along the shoulder line, and ends as a spear at the front. Once up here, we note the simple straight face of the car, exemplary of American cars at the time with a metal grille, unassuming bumper, and quad headlights. The C-pillar seems to melt into the decklid which ends when the small  two part tail lights begin, split by a ribbed trim piece that runs the width. 15-inch Chevrolet Rally wheels are wrapped in 225/70R15 tires, creating a square stance, the rear tires partially obscured by the opening design. Metalwork, emblem, and paint are fantastic with the only flaws being a bubble low on a door and some waviness by the polished rocker panel.  Interior Tidy doors combine stitched sections with smooth panels and chrome trim and both appear clean. Blue vinyl bucket seats occupy the front, the driver showing some use but the passenger seat is in very nice shape, as is the rear bench. Up front, a wood rimmed steering wheel fronts the original dash in ribbed metal similar to the exterior rear treatment on a smaller scale. Here we have three main gauges including a tachometer and an AM radio in the center, all under a newer dash pad. To monitor our rebuilt engine, a triple gauge cluster has been added with white faced Sunpro gauges. More ribbed trim on the center console around the left offset Hurst shifter, over blue loop carpet and under the light blue headliner that's in very nice condition. The trunk looks right out of 1964, clean and  covered with a mat and housing a spare.   Drivetrain In the spacious engine bay, we have a 327ci V8, rebuilt by A & H Engine Dynamics, bored .030 over and packing a Comp cam. It receives the dino juice from a 4-barrel carburetor and is backed by a period correct Muncie M20 4-speed manual transmission. The bay presents like a spotless show car. Our consignor states that 3.55 gears with Positraction are housed in the 10 bolt axle. Drum brakes are found in the front and in the rear, headers on the block, and this blue beauty is ready to stop and go!  Undercarriage Driver quality and clean underneath with minimal surface rust and dry conditions. We note some u-joint sling on the front and on the exhaust, a dual system that comes from the headers and runs through FlowMaster mufflers before terminating under the car through angle cut steel tailpipes. Suspension consists of coil spring in front and a 4 link with coil springs in back. Drive-Ability The big white ball calls our name and we take a seat in the decidedly non sporty front buckets of this vintage '64 Malibu. A turn of the key causes diurnal emissions, of sound, that is, with a healthy exhaust tone that will soon be enjoyed by our fair, rural community. Once on the test loop, the car proves to be sure footed with impressive acceleration, good handling, and crisp shifts. This well sorted car scores a 100 on the functionality test and we high tail it back to the mall. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were workin
