1998 Ford Mustang Cobra Convertible The SVT Mustang Cobra strikes a balance between powertrain and chassis, cornering prowess and long distance comfort, a balance in which no one system overwhelms any other. Of greatest importance, the Cobra is a joy to drive, performing well under a wide range of road conditions. The enthusiast press has lauded the SVT Mustang Cobra as a milestone in the U.S. auto industry, stating the Cobra is a car that America can feel proud of and that car enthusiasts are going to adore. From the 1998 SVT sales brochure. For consignment, a 1998 Ford Mustang Cobra convertible with a title verified 29,867 actual miles. This pampered pony has been garage kept and driven for fun sporadically, preserving its condition and keeping the miles low. The car comes with the original window sticker in a frame. Exterior Color choice is subjective, of course, but if you're going to own a bad to the bone car, there's no denying that Johnny Cash's favorite color is the one to go with. As if dipped in a vat of ink, this Black cobra shines bright in two stage application, topped by a black canvas top that keeps things dark as night. The glorious front end features the Cobra exclusive round fog lights topped by the subtly aggressive intake scoops on the upper hood, and for goodness sake, when you see that coming up behind you, move right. When the car passes you, a sweet exhaust note will soon follow and then you'll be looking at the COBRA stamped into the rear valance, here highlighted by silver lettering. Polished exhaust tips and a rear wing add to the sportiness and SVT's stamp of approval also appears on the decklid. In profile, the 17-inch SVT Cobra wheels are just right, while more subtle cues like the Cobra snake, quarter panel ducts, and a steeply raked windshield are the stuff of car enthusiasts' dreams. A ding on the door and some chin scrapes are the only imperfections on this black stallion. Interior Standard GT door panels start the Vader-esque interior. Designed simply with black molded plastic, they contain minimal buttons and speakers sculpted into the door card. We turn to the front bucket seats, wrapped in black leather with decent bolstering and padding and some tuck and roll on the inserts. There is slight patina throughout in the form of minor creasing in the leather, but cushioning remains fully filled. Just in case you need a reminder of your good fortune, Cobra is embossed on the leather wrapped steering wheel airbag center which has thumb buttons for cruise control, leading to the symmetrical gauge cluster with SVT's white faced gauges and orange needles. The center stack is home to basic climate control knobs, an AM/FM/Cassette radio and CD player at a time when America was still making the transition between the two. The stock shifter is wrapped in a black leather shift boot and handle and leans to the driver as if inviting some fun. The low pile black carpet, protected by carpeted floor mats, is in great shape as is the trunk lined in gray flannel like material.  Drivetrain Ford's venerable 4.6 liter DOHC 32 valve V8 hides under the aggressive hood and is rated at 305 horsepower. It has electronic fuel ignition and is tied to a Tremec T45 5-speed manual transmission routing power to the Ford 8.8 inch rear and 3.27 gears with TracLoc. You'll see a BBK cold air intake system under the hood and its polished parts dress up the otherwise clean and stock appearing engine bay. Four wheel power disc brakes are on board and the fact that this car recently passed PA inspection means they're in good shape! Undercarriage Clean and dry conditions prevail underneath where things are designed with some go fast simplicity. There is the typical surface rust present on untreated heavy components and a scrape on a crossmember, but otherwise a bottom side consistent with the low miles. Dual exhaust flows through original equipment mufflers and out through the polished tips. Suspensio
