Seller's Notes

If you've been searching for a 1969 Camaro Z/28 that blends pedigree, rarity, and flawless presentation, this Tuxedo Black example is the kind that stops even seasoned collectors in their tracks. Documented and certified by Camaro authority Jerry MacNeish of Camaro Hi-Performance, it ranks among the rarest of the rare. Just 0.6% of all 1969 Camaros left the factory in Tuxedo Black...and MacNeish's own extensive database includes only about a dozen black Z/28s. Built during the first week of September 1969 at the Norwood, Ohio plant, it retains its original VIN tag and trim tag, a true born Z/28 ordered with white stripes, a black vinyl interior, and an enviable list of options. The restoration journey spanned 11 years and was executed with uncompromising precision. Bob Harris of Camaro Specialties supplied numerous correct components, and MacNeish's expert guidance kept every detail faithful to factory standards. The body retains its original sheet metal, straight as the day it was stamped, finished in a mirror-like coat of its original Tuxedo Black with rally stripes laid perfectly over the flat hood, cowl, and deck lid. Panel gaps are crisp and uniform, and all original Safety-Flo-Lite-stamped glass remains intact and in exceptional condition. Subtle but distinctive factory touches like wheel well mouldings, bright drip rail mouldings, and silver headlight bezel trim provide the perfect contrast to the deep black finish. Correct date-coded 15-inch Rally wheels, dressed with chrome trim rings and center caps, complete the look, wrapped in period-style Goodyear Wide Tread GT E70-15 white-letter tires. Beneath the flat hood is the original, numbers-matching DZ-code 302 cubic-inch V8, its authenticity confirmed by MacNeish. The engine was rebuilt to exact specifications by Camaro Hi-Performance, topped by a date-coded #4053 Holley carburetor and paired with the correct ignition, exhaust, and accessory components. It's detailed to show standards, from the finishes on the valve covers to the placement of every decal and fastener, and it delivers the crisp, high-revving character that defines the Z/28 driving experience. Backing the 302 is a date-coded Muncie M22 Rock Crusher 4-speed manual transmission, sending power to a date-coded 12-bolt Positraction rear axle with 4.10 gears. This particular rear axle carries its own unique history...it was originally installed in one of the 206 JL8-optioned Camaros produced in 1969, a rare and desirable component in its own right. The undercarriage is every bit as show-ready as the rest of the car, with the original floor pans restored to perfection. Every system, from the steering to the suspension to the braking, has been rebuilt or replaced. As part of the restoration, JL8-style four-wheel disc brakes were added, providing improved stopping power while staying true to period-correct appearance. The interior matches the exterior in authenticity and condition. Original black bucket seat upholstery remains in remarkable shape, complemented by a new dash pad, fresh carpeting, and new door panels. The 3-spoke steering wheel frames a 120-mph speedometer, 6K-redline tachometer, and fuel-level gauge. Even the trunk is restored to factory form, with a full-size spare and correct jack tools in place. For collectors, a genuine Tuxedo Black 1969 Z/28 represents one of the most desirable combinations in the Camaro world. When it comes with its original drivetrain, expert certification, factory documentation, and a restoration of this quality, it's more than just a car...it's a rare opportunity. This Z/28 is ready to anchor a collection or stand tall at the most discerning shows, a black-on-black legend built for those who understand just how special it really is. Key Highlights * Rare and highly sought after factory black Camaro Z/28 with its original engine. * Certified original Black Z/28 by Jerry MacNeish * Certified original engine by Jerry MacNeish * DZ 302ci V
